In every NYSC camp across all states in Nigeria there is a book tagged the ‘Book of Life’.
The book of life is real; however, it is different from the one God has in heaven.
In the camp, every corps member is mandated to sign in the book before passing out.
The officials have had in the past explained that the reason the book is called the Book of Life can be derived from the importance of signing the book.
Any corps member whose name is not found in the book of life is not a serving member even if the person have fulfilled every other requirement from NYSC.
According to the camp officials, the signing in the book is the highest requirement a corps member must meet, failure to do so would amount the void of his service year.
Once you enter into the camp, find and sign the book of life; that is, if you do not hear the camp officials emphasizing on that.
The NYSC book of life is an official register and a large, physical book that permanently holds the names, call-up numbers, and other relevant details of every batch of corps members deployed to various states across Nigeria.
This book serves as a master record that can be referred to for verification and other administrative purposes.
It provides legal proof of participation and completion of the service year, which is often required for employment or further education.
Here are the steps to fill in the book correctly:
- Attend the registration at your orientation camp.
- Provide accurate information. Ensure all personal information, such as name, date of birth, and call-up number, is accurate.
- Follow the instructions given by the officials carefully when signing.
- Verify that your details are correctly entered into the book.
If your name is not in this book, you may not be recognized as a legitimate participant of the NYSC scheme.
Potential employers might not recognize your service year without proper documentation and you could miss out on benefits exclusive to NYSC alumni.
